  • Ep 60 - The Finale

    15/05/2014

No two guests on Erasing Boundaries have sounded the same. Each artist’s voice cut through the radio with its own particular timbre, framing the ideas that each individual had to share. Tonight, on the finale of Erasing Boundaries, we let these artists’ songs speak for them. Rather than extracting pieces of involved conversations and placing them out of context, we decided to try to fit the music from as many guests as possible. Move through genre and erase boundaries for the last time. • Ep 59 - William Fitzsimmons

    08/05/2014

Radio can be an intimate relationship. The airwaves connect the ideas from one mouth to the ears of another, with only a dial and airwaves in between. Yet this intimate relationship is inherently lopsided–only one side’s expression can be voiced and heard. When a musician steps on stage, however, the intimacy can work both ways. When William Fitzsimmons steps on stage, his beard brushing against the microphone and his four guitars waiting expectantly on stage, he is imploring the audience to join him and meet him halfway. Before a small show at the Englert Theatre in Iowa City, the gentle singer-songwriter sat down with Erasing Boundaries and dug into the art of expressing emotion. Music on this week’s show: Slavic Soul Party – Taketron (Erasing Boundaries Theme) Shabba Ranks – Mr. Loverman Blitz The Ambassador – Call Waiting William Fitzsimmons – Beautiful Girl William Fitzsimmons – Passion Play William Fitzsimmons – When I Come Home William Fitzsimmons – So This Is Goodbye (Pink Ganter Remix) William Fitz

Hip hop ain’t easy. Yet, Biz Markie has seen it all, and is still standing. This in and of itself is remarkable. That he continues to surprise audiences and create new directions is astounding. The rapper, DJ, human beatbox, and Yo Gabba Gabba co-creator is frank about his path. When asked what drives him still, after decades in hip hop, his answer is simple: “The competition. And I don’t want to go poor.” Hear the conversation in full on this week’s Erasing Boundaries.
